More than 20 energy transactions totalling 2.5.GW in 2022 for Glodeanu Partners law firm

2022 was a year of growth for Glodeanu Partners, which was present in more than 20 renewable energy transactions, totalling around 2.5 GW, both from operational projects and from projects under development, both on buyers’ and sellers’ side, which translates into foreign investments in Romania of approximately 1.75 billion EURO. The projects, object of these transactions are spread over all regions of the country, both in Dobrogea, traditionally known as the starting point for renewable energy projects, but also in Muntenia, Transylvania, Oltenia and Moldova.

“We are happy to see so much enthusiasm among investors. At the same time, we are grateful for the Clients we have. We can only be proud to be part of their projects and be happy for Romania, as a country, that it will be able to benefit from their presence here”, declares Mihaela Ciocîrlea, Co-Managing Partner of Glodeanu Partners.

“Also, we can proudly say that half of these transactions were with what we can call “Key Clients” of Glodeanu Partners, with whom we participated in 2 to 4 transactions with each of them” emphasizes Cristina Gavrilă, Partner and Co-Head of the Energy Practice.

Glodeanu Partners’ Clients’ list includes the Lithuanian investment fund, INVL Renewable Energy Fund I, keen on renewable energy investments in the European Union, currently focused on investments in Central and Eastern European markets, Nofar Energy, an Israeli company listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, specialized in the development, operation and storage of energy produced from PV and wind parks, with subsidiaries and projects in 7 countries, OX2, one of the most important developers of renewable energy projects, having in its portfolio both wind and photovoltaic projects, as well as other renewable energy technologies such as hydrogen and energy storage, Astroenergy, a member company of the leader in the production of industrial electrical and photovoltaic equipment Chint Group, Premier Energy, one of the energy and energy infrastructure holding companies in Southeast Europe with the highest growth, together with its partner, Alive Energy, one of the largest Romanian players in the field of renewable energy, as well as numerous local developers of renewable energy projects, especially photovoltaics.

Apart from the solid activity on the transaction side, Glodeanu Partners team actively participates with its Clients in the development of numerous renewable energy projects, and this activity is a challenge in itself, and, at the same time, it helps enormously in understanding the practicalities of a project, as well as gives a more hands-on approach in the transactions’ negotiation process.

“We are a boutique law firm, with a particular focus on renewable energy projects, but at the same time, we can cover aspects related to commercial and corporate law, real estate, banking and financing, specific regulations in the field of banking and financial services, private public partnerships or labor law”, declares Cezar Gușu, Co-Managing Partner of Glodeanu Partners.

“We would say that even despite the specificities of the Romanian market, transactions involving Renewable Energy projects have registered an exponential growth in 2022. However, we would like as few discussions as possible with our Clients where we discuss about the unstable, unclear, incompletely regulated legal framework and left to the discretion of the various regulatory authorities. But maybe this is also the charm of our market ...” emphasizes Ciprian Glodeanu, Partner and Co-Head of the Glodeanu Partners Energy Practice.

“We look into 2023 with confidence and we are ready to stand besides our Clients in the new stages of their projects’ development, financing, construction and operation. Both with the Clients whom we traditionally accompany in the development of their projects, as well as with the investors who take over the projects in stages” adds Cristina Gavrilă.

“The 20 deals could not have been completed without the team we have and continue to grow. If we started 2022 with a team of 6 lawyers, 3 partners and 3 collaborators, 2023 finds us with a team of 11 lawyers, 4 partners and 7 collaborators, as well as 1 manager of our office and operations” says Cezar Gușu.

“We are proud of the team we have and the values we strive to pass on. We consider the learning process a continuous one, not only from a professional point of view, but also from a personal one”, emphasizes Mihaela Ciocîrlea. Glodeanu Partners team prioritizes professionalism, collaboration, and respect, both towards its Clients and within its team.
